According to Microsoft’s latest threat research, over 8.3 billion phishing emails were detected in just the first three months of 2026 . Even more concerning:
- QR code phishing is exploding - giving attackers a new way to bypass traditional email defenses
- Fake CAPTCHA “security checks” are being used to increase trust while hiding malicious activity
- “Phishing-as-a-Service” tools mean attackers no longer need technical skills to launch sophisticated attacks
- Emails are increasingly designed to look legitimate, even including fake disclaimers and business language to build credibility
And here’s the key: most of these attacks are designed to get a user to take one small action - click, scan, or log in.
That’s where the real risk begins.
