Daylight Savings Time starts on March 11 ! We are advising everyone to print out your calendar by Friday March 9 for the month of March. Additionally, we recommend that you confirm appointments for the three week period between March 11 and April 1, since your computer might be up to date, but the person you are meeting with might not be! Your computer operating system needs to be updated, and any applications that use time such as Microsoft Outlook or Exchange. If you have a brand new system with Windows Vista and Office 2007, you're all set since your computer is already programmed to know about the time change. Older operating systems and software will need to be updated because they were developed before the new law went into effect in 2005 and will have the old algorithm for handling DST - namely to automatically advance time keeping on the first Sunday in April instead of the second Sunday in (March 11). Keep in mind that computer programs handle time in different ways, such as an absolute time, a time reference to Greenwich Time, or a calculated relative value. This is why this problem is much trickier than changing the clock on your microwave. Some of the effects you may see:
